Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari, have expressed confidence that voters in Northern Nigeria will support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the January 2027 presidential election.

The two politicians made the declaration on Saturday, October 24, 2026, during the official flag-off of the APC’s presidential campaign in Kaduna. They attributed their support for Tinubu to what they described as his administration’s interventions in infrastructure, security, education, healthcare and agriculture.

Speaking at the rally, Sani said the Federal Government had made significant investments in projects across the North, particularly in Kaduna State. He argued that voters should assess political candidates based on their records and achievements rather than their regional origins.

The governor highlighted the ongoing reconstruction of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway, saying the Federal Government had committed ₦740 billion to the project and that approximately 95 per cent of the relevant section had been completed.

He also cited the reconstruction of the 123-kilometre Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road, which he said had been abandoned for decades, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development in the state. Sani added that funding had been released for the project and that construction was ongoing.

On security, the governor recalled Tinubu’s visit to Birnin Gwari during the 2022 presidential campaign, when the area faced serious security challenges. He said the President had promised to improve security along the corridor and reconstruct the road, adding that the government had made progress on both commitments.

Sani further stated that more than 300 schools and over 150 primary healthcare centres that had closed because of insecurity in Kaduna State had reopened. He credited improved security and government interventions for the development.

The governor also referenced plans for a metropolitan rail project in Kaduna, alongside other road construction initiatives, as part of the administration’s infrastructure programme. He maintained that investments in transportation and public services would help stimulate economic activity and improve access to essential services.

On education and youth empowerment, Sani highlighted federal student-loan programmes and skills-development initiatives. He said these interventions were providing opportunities for young people, particularly students from disadvantaged backgrounds, to pursue education and acquire vocational skills.

The governor also challenged opposition politicians seeking to replace Tinubu to present records of their achievements in public office. He argued that candidates should demonstrate what they had accomplished for Nigerians rather than rely solely on appeals to regional identity.

Yari, a former Zamfara State governor and the APC campaign council’s director-general, also expressed confidence in Tinubu’s re-election prospects. He said the party intended to campaign on the administration’s record in infrastructure, healthcare, education and human-capital development.

Yari added that APC leaders were engaging traditional rulers, religious leaders and other influential stakeholders across Northern Nigeria to mobilise support for the President’s second-term ambition. He maintained that the party would present its policies and projects to voters as part of its campaign.

The Kaduna rally marked the formal launch of the APC’s presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 election. Tinubu used the occasion to appeal to supporters to turn out in large numbers on election day and vote for him for another term.

However, the campaign comes amid continuing economic difficulties and security challenges affecting many Nigerians. Although the Federal Government has pointed to improvements in public finances and ongoing infrastructure projects, households continue to face pressure from high living costs, while banditry, kidnappings and insurgency remain serious concerns in parts of the North.

Tinubu’s opponents have criticised aspects of his economic policies and security record, arguing that the administration has yet to sufficiently ease the hardship experienced by many citizens. The election is therefore expected to provide voters with an opportunity to assess the government’s performance alongside the alternatives offered by opposition candidates.

Sani and Yari’s statements reflect the APC leadership’s effort to consolidate support in Northern Nigeria, a region with significant electoral influence. Whether the assurances made at the rally translate into votes will ultimately be determined by voters in the 2027 presidential election.
