President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s regional development commissions to prioritise projects that directly improve the lives of citizens and contribute to economic development across their respective regions.
Tinubu gave the directive while receiving the leadership of the regional development commissions at the State House, Abuja, where he stressed the need for the commissions to focus on projects with measurable impact rather than wasteful or politically motivated spending.
The President also directed the timely release of funds due to the commissions, while urging them to explore alternative sources of financing to complement government allocations.
He warned that white-elephant projects, corruption and the politicisation of development initiatives would not be tolerated, stressing that the commissions must unlock the economic potential of their regions.
Tinubu urged the commissions to prioritise infrastructure and other interventions capable of improving economic opportunities, connectivity and living conditions for residents.
The regional development commissions were established to address the peculiar developmental challenges of different parts of the country and accelerate infrastructure and socio-economic development.
The President’s latest directive comes as the Federal Government continues to emphasise regional development as part of its broader Renewed Hope Agenda.
