President Bola Tinubu has dismissed rumours about his health, declaring that he is “healthy, sound, and ready to go” after returning to Nigeria from his working vacation in Europe.
Tinubu made the statement on Tuesday after arriving in Lagos from Paris, France, where he had spent the latter part of his extended working vacation.
Responding to questions from journalists about concerns over his health during his absence from the country, the President said there was nothing wrong with him.
“Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong,” Tinubu said, adding that rumours would always emerge in politics but that “the facts remain I’m here. Healthy, sound, and ready to go.”
Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 for a three-week working vacation, travelling first to London before proceeding to Paris. The Presidency later announced an extension of his stay, maintaining that he remained in touch with developments in Nigeria and continued to direct the affairs of government while abroad.
Before his return, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had also dismissed reports concerning the President’s health, describing him as hale and hearty.
The President’s return to Nigeria comes ahead of activities marking the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1.
Tinubu arrived in Lagos, where he is expected to participate in scheduled engagements before returning to Abuja.
