The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old security guard, Oladapo Felix, for allegedly shooting a resident of Zion Estate in the Akobo area of Ibadan.
The incident occurred at about 4am on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, when the victim, identified as Bolaji Oladipupo, reportedly came out of his residence to pump water and heard the sound of a siren around the estate.
According to the police, Oladipupo went outside to determine the source of the noise but was confronted by the security guard. The victim reportedly identified himself as a resident of the estate but was allegedly shot by Felix.
Following a distress call, operatives from the Akobo Police Division visited the scene and arrested the suspect at his duty post.
A search of the security post led to the recovery of four locally made single-barrel guns — two serviceable and two unserviceable — as well as a machete. The weapons have been secured as exhibits as the investigation continues.
The police said Felix confessed during preliminary investigation to having shot at the resident. Oladipupo is currently receiving medical treatment and is responding to treatment.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has directed a thorough investigation into the incident, including the circumstances surrounding the shooting and how the firearms came into the suspect’s possession.
The command also urged private security personnel to remain professional, disciplined and restrained while carrying out their duties.
