The Delta State Police Command has arrested 16 suspects and recovered firearms, a stolen Toyota Camry and quantities of suspected illicit drugs during separate operations across the state.
The arrests were carried out as part of ongoing intelligence-led operations targeting cultism, armed robbery, extortion, drug-related activities and other crimes.
According to the command, eight suspected cultists were arrested on September 7 during a raid on a suspected criminal gathering at Pleasure Bush Bar in Aragba-Orogun.
The operation followed intelligence received by the police concerning the alleged meeting. Officers subsequently stormed the location and arrested the suspects.
A search of one of the suspects’ residences led to the recovery of a pump-action gun, one live cartridge and five mobile phones.
The police said additional operations conducted at different locations across the state resulted in the arrest of other suspects and the recovery of a stolen Toyota Camry and suspected illicit drugs.
Operatives also reportedly disrupted an alleged extortion attempt at a construction site and arrested individuals suspected of involvement in drug-related activities.
The command said the cases had been transferred to the appropriate investigative units, with investigations ongoing to establish the roles of the suspects and identify other persons who may be connected to the alleged offences.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, directed officers and tactical teams to sustain intelligence-driven operations against criminal elements across the state.
