The Ogun State Government has commenced the disbursement of N6 billion in Community Investment Funds to 3,855 Women Affinity Groups across the state.
The intervention is being implemented under the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up Project, in partnership with the Federal Government and the World Bank.
The disbursement was flagged off on Wednesday at the Awujale Pavilion in Ijebu-Ode, with the initiative aimed at strengthening women’s access to finance, entrepreneurship opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.
According to the State Project Coordinator of the programme, Bolanle Fadairo, the funds are being provided under the livelihood support component of the Nigeria for Women Programme.
The programme is designed to provide participating women with financial literacy, entrepreneurship development, livelihood opportunities and other forms of economic support to strengthen their financial capacity.
Representatives of the World Bank, Federal Project Coordinating Unit and Federal Ministry of Women Affairs are participating in the disbursement exercise.
The state government said the intervention would also support women’s participation in community development and help strengthen household and local economic activities.
The N6 billion disbursement comes amid other women-focused empowerment initiatives in Ogun. Earlier figures from the state indicated that about 100,000 women had benefited from programmes implemented in partnership with the World Bank-supported Nigeria for Women Project.
