Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has removed the Commissioner for Works, Stanley Lebechi Mbam, from office with immediate effect.
The development was announced on Saturday in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor. The statement did not disclose the reason for Mbam’s removal.
Nwifuru directed the former commissioner to immediately hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government.
Mbam was also ordered to transfer his responsibilities at the Ministry of Works to the Permanent Secretary pending further directives from the state government.
The governor, according to the statement, assured residents that his administration remained focused on effective governance and improving public infrastructure across the state.
The latest removal comes months after Nwifuru suspended Mbam indefinitely in February 2026 alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Ogbonnaya Abara. The suspension followed allegations of dereliction of duty, concerns over the pace of project delivery and lapses within the Ministry of Works.
Mbam subsequently apologised to the governor and appealed for another opportunity to serve. He was recalled in May and resumed his position before his latest removal.
The Ebonyi State Government has yet to announce a replacement for Mbam or provide further details on the circumstances surrounding his dismissal.
