An angry mob in Akwa Ibom State reportedly set a suspected tricycle thief ablaze after apprehending him in the Abak Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred after youths in the community reportedly caught the suspect and accused him of being involved in tricycle theft.
According to reports, the suspect was attacked and subsequently set on fire by the mob, while two other individuals who were allegedly involved in the theft reportedly escaped from the scene.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the growing resort to jungle justice in parts of Nigeria, where suspected criminals are sometimes punished by members of the public before they can be handed over to security agencies.
Jungle justice remains a serious concern because suspects are entitled to due process and may be innocent of the allegations against them until proven guilty by a court of law.
