The Lagos State University has condemned a viral video showing a woman allegedly assaulting a female student inside one of the university’s hostel rooms.
The video, which circulated widely on social media on Friday, showed the woman grabbing, pushing and repeatedly striking the student during an apparent confrontation inside the room. The incident has generated reactions online, with several people calling for the university and relevant authorities to intervene.
The circumstances surrounding the altercation, however, could not be independently verified as of the time of the report. The identities of the woman and the student involved, as well as what triggered the confrontation, also remained unclear.
In the footage, the student could be heard pleading with the woman to stop as another person filming the incident appeared to intervene. The woman was also heard shouting at the student and ordering her to sit down during the confrontation.
The video was shared on X by a user identified as @AdegbolaJohn3, who alleged that the woman had followed her daughter to the university hostel before confronting and assaulting her daughter’s roommate.
The post tagged Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Vice-Chancellor of LASU and the Lagos State Commissioner for Education, urging them to look into the matter.
The allegation attracted significant attention online, with social media users expressing concern about the safety of students in university accommodation and questioning how a confrontation involving an adult and a student was allowed to escalate inside the hostel.
Responding to enquiries about the incident, LASU confirmed that it was aware of the matter and said it had already been addressed by the university.
“The matter has been addressed by the University. However, we condemn this in the strongest terms,” the institution said.
The university did not disclose further details about what led to the altercation or explain the specific measures taken after the incident. It was also not immediately clear whether disciplinary or other action had been taken against the woman or any of the students involved
