The District Head of Gwandu in Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammadu Rasheed, popularly known as Sarkin Gabas, has died.
His death was confirmed on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris.
Rasheed reportedly died on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. However, another report identified the deceased as Muhammad Zayyanu Bello and said he died after a protracted illness.
According to the state government, funeral prayers were scheduled to be held at the Palace of the Emir of Gwandu in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
Rasheed succeeded his father, the late Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar Mai-Wurno, who was the eldest son of the late Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Haruna Rasheed.
The Kebbi State Government described his death as a major loss to the state and its traditional institution.
Governor Nasir Idris, who is currently in the United States attending the 81st United Nations General Assembly alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, was said to have received the news with shock.
The governor expressed condolences to the deceased’s family, the people of Gwandu and the entire Kebbi State, while praying for Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
