President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has said having a son to carry on his family name is not a priority for him, stressing that he is satisfied with the achievements of his three daughters.
Dangote made the disclosure in an interview with Arise News on Tuesday while responding to a question about whether he still desired a male heir.
The billionaire businessman said the decision to have a son was ultimately in God’s hands and that people should not force what they have not been given.
“That is not my priority because God controls everything,” Dangote said, adding that having a son does not necessarily guarantee that a family’s name or legacy would be better preserved.
He also expressed confidence in his daughters, saying he did not believe a son would have performed better than them.
“I don’t think a son would have done better than the three daughters I have,” he said.
Dangote has three daughters — Mariya, Halima and Fatima — who have been involved in different aspects of his business and philanthropic activities.
The businessman also confirmed an agreement within his family to dedicate one-third of his estate to the Dangote Foundation after his death. He said the arrangement had been formally documented to ensure that the funds would be used to support people through philanthropy.
Dangote, who is listed by Forbes as one of Africa’s richest people, also advised young Nigerians seeking success to remain hardworking, focused and consistent, stressing the importance of concentrating on a chosen path rather than trying to do everything at once.
He recalled starting his business career as a distributor, saying his journey began with four trucks before he eventually built the business empire that became the Dangote Group.
