A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced a fake spiritualist, Solomon Odigie Moses, to one year in prison for defrauding and sextorting an Indian woman who sought spiritual assistance from him.
Justice C.N. Nwabulu convicted Moses on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge bordering on cheating and impersonation.
According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Moses operated a fictitious TikTok account where he posed as a spiritual leader known as “Dr Solomon” and offered spiritual prayers and assistance.
The EFCC said he obtained $1,100 from an Indian woman, identified as Sharon Kaur, who had approached him seeking spiritual healing. Moses reportedly received the money through a Zelle payment platform, after which the naira equivalent was transferred into his Nigerian bank account.
The convict subsequently deceived the woman into participating in a naked spiritual bath, which he secretly recorded without her consent.
He then allegedly threatened to release the video publicly unless she paid him money. The EFCC said the victim eventually paid another $1,100 to prevent the footage from being made public.
Moses was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, during investigations into the case.
Following his guilty plea, prosecution counsel Maryam Hayatudeen urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.
Justice Nwabulu sentenced Moses to one year imprisonment, with an option of a N300,000 fine. The court also ordered that the $1,100 proceeds of crime be forfeited to the victim through the EFCC.
The case highlights the growing use of social media platforms to perpetrate fraud and exploit victims through impersonation, manipulation and sextortion.
