Spanish giants Barcelona have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal for a reported fee of £8.6 million (€10 million).
The 29-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Barcelona that will keep him at the club until June 2029, bringing an end to his four-year spell with Arsenal.
Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 for a reported £45 million and went on to make 123 appearances, scoring 32 goals for the Gunners. However, injuries and increased competition for places gradually reduced his role in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
His move to Barcelona represents a major new chapter in the Brazilian’s career, with the striker describing the transfer as the fulfilment of a dream.
Barcelona had also been pursuing Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez, but the two transfer situations were reportedly separate. Jesus’ arrival gives manager Hansi Flick another experienced attacking option.
The transfer was completed on Deadline Day, after Jesus underwent his medical in Barcelona. He becomes one of the club’s major additions during the current transfer window.
Before joining Arsenal, Jesus spent six seasons with Manchester City, where he won multiple Premier League titles and established himself as one of the league’s most effective forwards.
For Arsenal, the sale allows the club to move on from a player who had fallen down the attacking pecking order while also generating a transfer fee for a forward who had entered the final year of his contract.
Barcelona will now hope that Jesus can rediscover his best form in Spain and provide additional goals and versatility to their attack.
The Brazilian’s arrival also adds another experienced name to Barcelona’s revamped squad as the club targets domestic and European success during the 2026/27 season.
