Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he is focused on delivering Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made the declaration while speaking about preparations for the 2027 elections, insisting that his priority is not securing a campaign title but ensuring that Tinubu wins in the areas where he has political influence.
The former Rivers State governor said he considers Rivers and the FCT his two political territories for the purpose of the coming election.
“I don’t want to lose my state! I will be in my state. I have two states: FCT and my state,” Wike said.
He added that what mattered was the ability of political leaders to deliver their areas for Tinubu, rather than who was appointed to a particular campaign position.
“What’s important is: are you able to deliver those two states? So it’s not about being DG. If you’re DG and you don’t win your state, what’s the essence of the DG?” he said.
Wike’s comments come as political calculations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and political blocs beginning to organise their structures at the grassroots.
The minister has repeatedly presented Rivers as a strong base for Tinubu despite the President’s relatively weak showing in the state during the 2023 presidential election. In February, Wike said the political structure supporting Tinubu in Rivers was capable of delivering a significant vote for the President without relying on the state governor for mobilisation.
His latest comments also highlight the continuing importance of his political influence in Rivers State, where he served as governor from 2015 to 2023 and remains a major figure in the state’s political landscape.
