Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has described the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) victories in four of five recent bye-elections as significant ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Keyamo made the assessment in a statement posted on his social media account while reacting to the results of the elections held across Kano, Bauchi, Gombe and Delta states.
The APC won four of the five Federal and State Assembly seats contested across the North-West, North-East and South-South regions, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) won one State Assembly seat in Bauchi State.
Keyamo said the geographical spread of the APC’s victories was significant in the context of Nigeria’s presidential electoral system.
He also referenced the constitutional requirement that a presidential candidate must secure at least 25 per cent of votes in two-thirds of the states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory to win the presidency.
The minister said he would provide a fuller analysis of what he described as the significance of the bye-election results in presidential elections after the 2027 poll.
Keyamo also expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s prospects in the 2027 election, saying in his post that he expected Tinubu to be declared winner. His statement represents his political position rather than an established election outcome.
