Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has revealed the emotional final words late actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, said to him during his last visit to the hospital before his death.
Quadri, who shared a friendship with Ogogo for more than four decades, recalled becoming emotional when he saw his longtime friend lying on a hospital bed.
According to Quadri, he could not hold back his tears, but Ogogo noticed his reaction and tried to reassure him despite his own condition.
Ogogo reportedly told him, “Yinka, don’t cry. Nothing bad will happen to me.” Quadri responded, “Yes, Amen.”
Quadri said the moment gave him renewed hope, especially after Ogogo later asked for a bottle of water and told the doctors that he had eaten that morning. The veteran actor said he took the development as a positive sign and continued to believe that his friend would recover.
Reflecting on the encounter after Ogogo’s death, Quadri said the words had remained deeply etched in his memory. He described his late friend as his “bosom friend” and said he would forever cherish the memories they created together.
Quadri revealed that his friendship with Ogogo dated back to 1984 and grew beyond their professional relationship. He said that despite rumours over the years that the two actors had fallen out, neither of them publicly attacked the other or confirmed such claims.
He also recalled their years together on movie locations, journeys, disagreements and moments of laughter, describing Ogogo’s death as a loss that had left a void that words could not fill.
Ogogo died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling stage-four cancer. He was buried according to Islamic rites in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, on August 24.
Quadri was visibly emotional during the burial, where he joined other Nollywood veterans and family members to pay their final respects to the Yoruba film icon.
