Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri broke down in tears on Monday as his longtime friend and colleague, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, was laid to rest in Ilaro, Ogun State.
Quadri was among the numerous Nollywood actors, family members and sympathisers who gathered to pay their final respects to the 66-year-old Yoruba film icon. Videos from the ceremony showed Quadri visibly overwhelmed with emotion as Ogogo’s remains were taken to the burial ground.
The emotional moment reflected the close relationship between the two veteran actors, who shared decades of friendship and professional history in the Yoruba film industry. Quadri had also been among colleagues who supported Ogogo during his illness.
Ogogo was buried in accordance with Islamic rites in his hometown of Ilaro, a day after his death was announced. His remains were taken to the town on Sunday ahead of the funeral rites held on Monday.
Several prominent Nollywood personalities attended the burial, including Jide Kosoko, Faithia Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Mr Latin, Toyosi Adesanya, Ireti Osayemi and Bisi Omo Logbalogba.
The gathering was marked by grief and tributes as colleagues reflected on Ogogo’s contribution to Yoruba-language cinema and his decades-long career.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling stage-four cancer. His daughters had appealed publicly for assistance with his treatment shortly before his death.
