US Firm Accuses Tinubu of Fighting to Keep Alleged Drug Records Secret

 

 A United States-based policy advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of making efforts to prevent the public release of records relating to allegations of drug trafficking against him.

The firm made the allegation while commenting on an ongoing legal battle in the United States over the release of records allegedly held by American law-enforcement agencies concerning Tinubu.

According to the firm, Tinubu is “fighting hard” to keep records of his alleged drug trafficking hidden, arguing that the documents should be made available to the public.

The development comes amid renewed efforts by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to obtain records relating to Tinubu from US agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Atiku has repeatedly called for the release of documents he believes could shed light on allegations surrounding Tinubu’s past activities in the United States.

The dispute centres on records reportedly held by US law-enforcement and intelligence agencies, with questions surrounding whether the documents can be released under American freedom-of-information laws.

The US firm’s latest comments have added to the political controversy surrounding the issue, particularly as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 presidential election.

The allegations against Tinubu relate to claims that have circulated for years concerning his activities and financial dealings in the United States. Tinubu has consistently denied wrongdoing and has not been convicted of drug trafficking in Nigeria or the United States.

The President has also previously challenged allegations concerning his past in US courts, while his supporters have maintained that attempts to revive the issue are politically motivated.

The latest development follows continued pressure from Atiku and his legal representatives for American authorities to release documents connected to Tinubu.

The US firm argued that the continued legal efforts surrounding the records show the importance of making the documents public so that the allegations can be independently assessed.
