A student of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Ademiju Ayeni, has died after sustaining a stab wound during the convention of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee, Osun State Chapter, in Osogbo, Osun State.
Ayeni, a student of Estate Management, reportedly attended the convention held on Saturday at the Osun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre in the state capital.
According to sources who participated in the event, an altercation occurred around the convention venue, with one source alleging that Ayeni was stabbed by a member of the programme’s security committee while attempting to gain access to the venue.
The circumstances surrounding the stabbing, however, remain under investigation.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed that there had been a disagreement between Ayeni and some individuals during the convention. The police said the disagreement was eventually resolved before participants dispersed.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, Ayeni later complained of chest pain. When he was examined, a stab wound was discovered on his chest.
He was rushed to a private hospital in Osogbo, where he was confirmed dead. His remains were subsequently deposited at the morgue of the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, while an autopsy is expected to be conducted.
