A fire outbreak has destroyed spare parts and vehicle tyres worth millions of naira at Araromi Market in the Onipasan area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The fire reportedly started on Saturday night, August 29, 2026, affecting several shops dealing in automobile components within the Ibadan North-East Local Government Area.
According to the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, firefighters arrived at the scene to find disused tyres and spare parts already engulfed in flames.
The blaze threatened to spread to neighbouring shops and properties, prompting firefighters to immediately begin efforts to contain it. An additional fire truck was subsequently deployed from the Fire Service headquarters to support the operation.
The firefighters were able to bring the fire under control before it spread to surrounding businesses, preventing further destruction.
No death or injury was recorded in the incident, according to the fire service.
However, traders suffered significant financial losses as spare parts, tyres and other goods were destroyed by the inferno. The exact monetary value of the damage is yet to be established, as an assessment of the losses is still ongoing.
The cause of the fire has also not been disclosed. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the outbreak and determine what triggered the blaze.
The incident has renewed concerns over the vulnerability of markets in Ibadan to fire outbreaks. Oyo State has recorded several market fires in recent years, including incidents at Araromi Market, Bode Market, Oranyan Market and other commercial centres.
