Former Kogi West senator and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dino Melaye, has urged President Bola Tinubu and his family to begin preparing to leave the Presidential Villa ahead of the 2027 general election.
Melaye made the statement on Monday while appearing on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he criticised the Tinubu administration over what he described as widespread hunger, insecurity, killings, corruption and poor governance.
“The president and his family members should begin to pack their luggage from the Aso Rock Villa, including those in the Boys’ Quarters,” Melaye said.
He expressed confidence that the ADC would defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, arguing that Nigerians had become dissatisfied with the current administration.
According to Melaye, the opposition party’s chances are strengthened by what he described as a disconnect between the government and citizens. He pointed to economic hardship, insecurity and allegations of corruption as evidence that Nigerians are unhappy with the government.
Melaye also criticised the administration’s budget implementation. He alleged that the Federal Government had borrowed money to finance its budgets while some contracts awarded as far back as 2024 remained unpaid.
He further claimed that the government was still implementing the 2024 budget in 2026, using the situation to question the administration’s fiscal management.
The former senator also took aim at President Tinubu’s recent comments on politics, particularly the president’s reported remark that “all is fair in politics.” Melaye interpreted the statement as suggesting that practices such as electoral manipulation, violence and ballot snatching could be tolerated.
