The Benue State Police Command has arrested a 500-level student of Fr. Moses Adasu University, formerly known as Benue State University, for allegedly pouring hot water on a fellow student following a disagreement.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the students’ residence in Benue State.
The police spokesperson, DSP Peter Aondongu, confirmed the incident on Saturday, saying an investigation had commenced to determine what led to the confrontation between the two students.
According to the police, the two students were living in the same room when a disagreement reportedly escalated. The suspect allegedly boiled water, added salt and pepper, and poured the mixture on the victim before locking her inside the room.
People later became aware of what had happened and intervened, rescuing the victim and taking her to hospital for medical treatment. The suspect was subsequently arrested by the police.
The victim was identified by the university’s Students’ Union as Rose, a 200-level Political Science student. The Students’ Union President, Akighirga Vitalis, reportedly visited her at the hospital alongside other union executives.
Vitalis said Rose explained that she and the suspect, identified as Felicia, had previously been living together but had experienced disagreements over personal matters.
He described the alleged attack as a serious and unacceptable assault and assured students that the union would follow the matter closely while the investigation continues.
The Students’ Union also said that if the allegations are established through due process, it would support appropriate disciplinary action under the university’s regulations.
Police authorities said they were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and had not yet established what triggered the disagreement.
