Lawyers representing former Big Brother Naija housemate Bella Okagbue have rejected the defamation allegations made against their client by her former boyfriend, Segun “Sheggz” Olusemo.
In a letter dated August 24, 2026, Bella’s legal team described the allegations contained in a cease-and-desist notice issued on Sheggz’s behalf as “spurious and baseless.”
Sheggz’s lawyers had earlier accused Bella of making defamatory statements about him, including claims that he was abusive, owed her ₦11 million, and made disparaging comments about her and his family. They demanded that she retract the statements and issue an apology.
However, Bella’s lawyers argued that their client’s social-media comments were expressions of her genuine feelings and personal experiences during their relationship, rather than defamatory statements capable of damaging Sheggz’s reputation. They consequently rejected the demands for a retraction, apology and cease-and-desist.
The legal team also made fresh allegations against Sheggz, claiming that he breached a promise to marry Bella and misrepresented his intentions during their relationship, which they characterised as deceit.
They further alleged that Sheggz obtained several loans from Bella under false pretences. According to the lawyers, they have evidence to support the allegations and are prepared to pursue the matter before a court of competent jurisdiction.
Bella’s lawyers also accused a member of Sheggz’s legal team of allegedly sending unsolicited messages and making phone and video calls to their client at odd hours. The lawyer was warned to stop the alleged conduct.
The dispute between the former couple escalated after their breakup became public, with both sides and their supporters making claims about what happened during their relationship.
Sheggz’s legal action reportedly followed Bella’s public claims concerning the alleged ₦11 million debt and other issues surrounding their relationship. His lawyers described those statements as damaging to his reputation and demanded that they be withdrawn.
