The newly inaugurated President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has pledged to leave the association stronger than she met it at the end of her two-year tenure.
Badejo-Okusanya made the commitment after formally assuming office as the 33rd President of the NBA during the association’s 66th Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
She became the second woman to lead the NBA after winning the association’s 2026 presidential election with 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the votes cast. She defeated Lateef Akangbe, SAN, and Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, in the election.
Speaking about her vision for the association, Badejo-Okusanya said she was determined to build on the achievements of previous administrations while introducing reforms that would improve the professional lives of Nigerian lawyers.
She promised to lead with integrity, courage, humility, fairness and accountability, stressing that her administration would work for every member of the association.
The NBA president said her campaign across the country had given her the opportunity to listen directly to lawyers about their concerns, aspirations and challenges. She said those interactions would guide her administration as she begins her tenure.
She also placed emphasis on improving lawyers’ welfare and creating an environment where members can earn better, live better and practise law more effectively.
