Former Kogi West senator Dino Melaye has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of desperation over the reported appointment of Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), as Deputy Director of Fundraising for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign.
Melaye made the allegation during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday, saying Adedeji’s position as head of the NRS creates a conflict of interest because he is also expected to participate in fundraising for the political campaign of a sitting president.
The former senator argued that Adedeji is a serving public official whose appointment was confirmed by the Senate and who is therefore expected to comply with relevant laws and public service rules.
“Zacch Adedeji cannot be the chairman of the NRS and, at the same time, be a fundraiser for the presidential campaign of a sitting President,” Melaye said, describing the situation as a conflict of interest that should be tested in court.
Melaye said he intends to challenge the appointment legally, arguing that the court should determine whether a serving revenue-service chairman can simultaneously hold a political campaign position.
He questioned the circumstances surrounding Adedeji’s appointment, suggesting that the NRS chairman’s inclusion in the campaign fundraising structure raised questions about the purpose behind his appointment to the revenue agency.
