Former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Matthew Kolawole, has called on residents of Kabba-Bunu and Ijumu Federal Constituency to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in the 2027 general elections.
Kolawole made the call at an endorsement and mega rally organised by the Team Yomi Kola political structure in Kabba, where APC supporters, party leaders, elders, women and youth groups gathered to express their support for the two leaders.
The former Speaker urged voters to assess the performance of the Tinubu and Ododo administrations and determine whether their policies and programmes deserved continuity.
He highlighted several Federal Government initiatives, including the Students Loan Scheme and youth and women empowerment programmes aimed at improving access to education, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition and employment.
Kolawole also pointed to the ongoing reconstruction of the Kabba-Egbe-Ilorin Road, describing it as an important infrastructure project that could improve commercial activities and connectivity between Kogi, Kwara and neighbouring states.
On security, he commended the Tinubu administration for what he described as increased support for the armed forces and security agencies in the fight against banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities.
He similarly praised Governor Ododo for prioritising security, workers’ welfare and infrastructure in Kogi State.
Kolawole specifically cited the regular payment of salaries and pensions by the state government, saying the policy was important to workers, pensioners and the wider grassroots economy.
He also described the establishment and development of Kogi State University, Kabba, as a major investment in human capital development for Okunland and the state.
The former Speaker further praised the payment of WAEC and NECO examination fees for students in public schools, saying the initiative had reduced the financial burden on parents.
However, Kolawole acknowledged that government performance should ultimately be judged by its impact on people’s everyday lives. He identified roads, healthcare, electricity, water supply, agriculture and support for small businesses as areas requiring continued attention.
