The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, has visited Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in Osogbo to discuss support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Basiru paid the courtesy visit to Adeleke on Sunday, shortly after the governor secured re-election in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party.
The APC National Secretary said the visit had three main purposes. He congratulated Adeleke on his electoral victory, expressed appreciation for the governor’s earlier visit during the burial of Basiru’s late mother and discussed plans to secure Osun State for President Tinubu in 2027.
Basiru acknowledged that he had delayed visiting Adeleke because of the recently concluded governorship election, during which he actively campaigned against the governor.
Speaking after the meeting, Basiru said Adeleke had indicated his willingness to work towards delivering Osun for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
According to him, the governor’s position would be significant to efforts to mobilise support for the President across the state.
Basiru said, “We are ready to work together to ensure that we deliver Osun massively for President Bola Tinubu.”
He also claimed that cooperation between the APC and Adeleke’s Accord Party structure could deliver approximately 1.5 million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The meeting is particularly significant because Adeleke defeated the APC’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the August 15 governorship election. Adeleke secured a second term after winning the election on the Accord Party platform.
Basiru’s visit therefore represents a notable political shift from the intense rivalry that characterised the Osun governorship campaign.
