Iran launched a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks on Kuwait, striking a major power generation and water desalination plant and forcing the temporary suspension of commercial flights, as hostilities with the United States continued to escalate across the Gulf region. Kuwaiti authorities said the attack caused a fire and damaged critical infrastructure, prompting emergency response measures.

According to Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, the strike hit one of the country’s key electricity generation and desalination facilities, damaging several power units and igniting a fire that was later brought under control. Officials warned that the damage could affect electricity generation and freshwater production, urging residents to conserve energy while repair work continues.

The attacks also disrupted aviation, with Kuwait International Airport temporarily suspending commercial flights after missile and drone threats were detected in the country’s airspace. Authorities activated emergency procedures, while air defence systems intercepted several incoming projectiles to protect strategic installations and civilian areas. Flight operations were gradually restored after security assessments were completed.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attacks targeted facilities linked to the U.S. military presence in Kuwait, describing the operation as retaliation for continued American airstrikes on Iranian military infrastructure. The latest exchange comes after the United States carried out another round of strikes on Iranian surveillance, logistics and missile facilities, further intensifying the conflict between the two countries.

The renewed attacks have heightened concerns over regional security and the resilience of critical infrastructure across the Gulf. International observers warned that continued strikes on power, water and transport facilities could worsen humanitarian and economic challenges, while renewed disruptions to air travel and energy supplies may have broader consequences for the global economy.
