Iran launched a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks across the Gulf on Friday, striking a second power and water desalination plant in Kuwait while Bahrain’s air defence systems intercepted and destroyed multiple incoming aerial threats. The attacks came after another night of U.S. airstrikes on Iranian military targets, marking a further escalation in the conflict between Washington and Tehran.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy confirmed that one of the country’s critical power generation and desalination facilities was hit, causing a fire and damaging several production units. Emergency response teams quickly contained the blaze, while authorities appealed to residents to conserve electricity as engineers worked to restore affected infrastructure. The latest strike follows an earlier attack on another power facility, raising concerns about Kuwait’s energy and water security.

In neighbouring Bahrain, the military said its air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed several Iranian missiles and drones before they could reach their intended targets. Air raid sirens sounded across parts of the country as residents were urged to seek shelter, while authorities confirmed that security forces remained on high alert.

Iran said the attacks were carried out in retaliation for continued U.S. military operations against its strategic assets, including missile sites, logistics facilities and maritime infrastructure linked to the ongoing dispute over the Strait of Hormuz. The United States has maintained that its operations are aimed at protecting international shipping routes and safeguarding regional allies from further attacks.

The renewed hostilities have heightened fears of a broader regional conflict, with Gulf states strengthening security around critical infrastructure and global markets reacting to concerns over potential disruptions to energy supplies. International leaders and the United Nations have continued to call for restraint and renewed diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.
