Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, has said it is difficult to rule out the involvement of internal collaborators in the alleged fake government agency scandal surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Ajayi maintained that the PFIPC was not a legitimate government agency and described the documents presented by the alleged self-styled Director-General, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, as forged. He pointed to discrepancies in the appointment letter, including the presence of a telephone number on the State House letterhead, which he said does not appear on genuine Presidency documents.
Ajayi stressed that presidential appointments do not originate from the Office of the Chief of Staff, explaining that while the Chief of Staff conveys the President’s approval, formal appointment letters are issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). He said any appointment letter purportedly issued directly by the Chief of Staff’s office should immediately raise suspicion.
When asked whether the incident suggested insiders had assisted Adeyemi, Ajayi said it was “not impossible”, noting that the suspect’s ability to operate from the Federal Secretariat indicated that “something could have gone wrong at some point.” He added that security agencies are investigating how the alleged fraud was carried out and whether public officials aided the scheme.
The PFIPC controversy began after Adeyemi claimed he was lawfully appointed as Director-General and alleged that he paid ₦400 million to secure the appointment. The Presidency has consistently denied the existence of the agency, while Adeyemi is facing criminal charges including forgery, impersonation, and conspiracy
