Teachers, students, and civil society groups staged protests in parts of Oyo State over the abduction of schoolteachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area, demanding urgent action from security agencies and the government.
The demonstrators reportedly marched through major roads carrying placards with messages calling for the immediate rescue of the victims and improved security across the state.
The protest follows the kidnapping of several pupils and teachers after armed men attacked schools in the Oriire area, an incident that has generated widespread concern among residents and education stakeholders.
Members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and other education groups condemned the attack, describing it as a direct threat to education and the safety of children in the state.
Protesters urged the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, and security agencies to intensify rescue operations and ensure the safe return of all abducted victims.
Some demonstrators also criticized what they described as the worsening insecurity affecting schools and rural communities, warning that fear among parents and teachers could disrupt education in affected areas.
Security authorities have stated that efforts are ongoing to locate the abductors and rescue the victims, while government officials appealed for calm and cooperation from residents.
The incident has continued to attract national attention, with activists, labour groups, student organizations, and political figures including Omoyele Sowore calling for stronger measures to address insecurity and protect schools across the country.
