The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 26 foreign nationals over an alleged false kidnapping report involving a Ghanaian woman in the Isheri-Osun area of Lagos.
According to security sources, police received a distress call that a 30-year-old Ghanaian woman, Rigana Asuma, had been kidnapped and held in a building on Yemi Ogunleye Street. Acting on the report, a joint team of conventional police officers and tactical operatives stormed the location and successfully rescued the woman.
During the operation, officers arrested 26 foreign nationals 18 men and eight women who are now being investigated in connection with the incident. Authorities are working to determine whether the kidnapping report was genuine or part of a wider criminal scheme involving false abduction claims.
The police said investigations are ongoing to establish the roles played by the suspects and uncover any links to transnational criminal activities. The arrested individuals remain in custody pending the conclusion of the investigation.
The development highlights growing concerns about cross-border criminal networks and the use of false kidnapping reports to facilitate fraud, extortion, or other illegal activities. Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to tackling such crimes and ensuring public safety
