Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Kogot village in the Vwang-Vom District of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing a 52-year-old man and causing extensive damage to farmlands in the area.
The victim was identified as Danjuma Badung, 52, who was killed alongside his 78-year-old mother, Ngo Shettu Badung, during the late-night attack. Community sources said the assailants invaded the village at about 11:00 p.m., opening fire on residents and forcing many to flee for safety.
The attack was confirmed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, who expressed concern over the recurring violence in the area.
According to reports, the violence extended beyond the killings. Large areas of farmland in nearby communities, including Kassa and Barkin Ladi, were reportedly destroyed, affecting crops such as cabbage, maize, and hot pepper and worsening the hardship faced by local farmers.
BYM said two other youths were also ambushed and killed during related attacks, while several residents sustained injuries.
Community leaders have called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect rural communities and prevent further attacks, warning that continued violence is threatening both lives and livelihoods across affected parts of Plateau State.
The latest incident adds to a series of deadly attacks that have recently affected communities in Plateau, heightening concerns about security and the destruction of agricultural activities in the state.
