Students of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) reportedly boycotted lectures and academic activities following the killing of a fellow student during a dispute allegedly linked to ₦13,500.

The deceased, identified as a student of the institution, was allegedly attacked and killed after an argument over money escalated into violence. The incident sparked outrage among students and members of the university community.

Reports indicate that many students stayed away from classes in protest, demanding justice for their colleague and improved security measures within and around the university environment.

Some students reportedly marched across parts of the campus while expressing anger over the circumstances surrounding the killing and calling on authorities to ensure that those responsible are prosecuted.

The university management condemned the incident and appealed for calm, assuring students that it was cooperating with security agencies investigating the case.

Police authorities confirmed that an investigation had commenced and stated that efforts were ongoing to apprehend all individuals connected to the killing.

The incident has reignited concerns about student safety, violence among youths, and insecurity around tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Students and civil society groups have continued to demand swift justice, arguing that the killing highlights the need for stronger conflict-resolution mechanisms and improved security around campuses.
