A fire outbreak has destroyed eight shops in Ibadan, Oyo State, leaving traders with losses worth millions of naira.
The incident reportedly occurred at a shopping area in the Sango axis of Ibadan, where the fire quickly spread before firefighters were able to bring it under control. No casualties were recorded.
According to the Oyo State Fire Service, emergency responders were alerted and immediately deployed to the scene. With support from the Federal Fire Service, the blaze was contained to prevent it from spreading to nearby shops and buildings.
Officials said eight out of several shops in the complex were affected, while other businesses were successfully saved during the operation. The cause of the fire had not been confirmed at the time of reporting, and investigations were ongoing.
Authorities also urged shop owners and residents to adopt stronger fire safety measures, including proper handling of electrical appliances and installation of firefighting equipment, to reduce future incidents.
The incident adds to recurring fire outbreaks in commercial areas of Ibadan, which have continued to raise concerns among traders and residents.
