Concern is growing in Kaduna State over the continued captivity of 37 residents abducted during an Easter Sunday attack on the Ariko community in Kachia Local Government Area.
The victims were kidnapped on April 5, 2026, when armed attackers invaded the community during church services, killing several people and abducting dozens of worshippers. More than 74 days later, the hostages are yet to regain their freedom, according to community leaders and local groups.
Members of the Kuturmi Unity Development Association (KUDA) and other concerned residents have accused authorities of not doing enough to secure the release of the abductees. The group expressed frustration over what it described as prolonged silence and inadequate intervention despite the suffering of affected families.
The issue has also drawn the attention of the Southern Kaduna Journalists Forum, which recently called on security agencies and the Kaduna State Government to intensify efforts to rescue the captives and address the worsening security situation in the area.
Community leaders say many of the victims’ relatives have been left traumatised, while concerns continue to mount over the welfare and safety of those still being held by their abductors.
The incident has renewed calls for stronger security measures in Southern Kaduna, where residents say recurring attacks, kidnappings, and displacement have continued to affect daily life and economic activities
