Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the Federal Government of Nigeria over worsening economic conditions, saying Nigerian workers are facing increasing hardship.

In his Workers’ Day message, Atiku said rising inflation, high cost of living and declining purchasing power have made life more difficult for workers across the country. He argued that despite policy announcements, many Nigerians are yet to feel meaningful economic relief.

The former presidential candidate called on the government to adopt more people-focused economic policies, stressing the need for improved wages, job creation and social protection systems to cushion the impact of current challenges.

He also commended Nigerian workers for their resilience, noting that their contributions remain critical to national development despite the prevailing economic pressures.

Atiku’s remarks add to ongoing national conversations around labour welfare and economic reforms, especially as workers mark International Workers’ Day amid growing concerns over living standards.
