The United States has announced a fresh round of sanctions targeting Iran’s military-linked oil trade as Washington intensifies pressure on Tehran over its petroleum exports and regional activities.

According to the US Treasury Department, the sanctions affect eight vessels allegedly involved in transporting Iranian crude oil and petroleum products linked to Iran’s military infrastructure.

The sanctions also target more than 15 companies and entities accused of helping facilitate Iran’s oil sales network across several countries, including firms based in Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the measures are aimed at cutting off revenue streams allegedly used to fund Iran’s military operations and affiliated groups.

Washington stated that the new restrictions form part of the Trump administration’s renewed “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran.

The move comes despite ongoing reports of tentative diplomatic discussions between US and Iranian negotiators over a possible ceasefire extension and renewed nuclear talks.

Recent tensions between both countries have centred around Iran’s oil exports, military activities, and the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.

Iran has repeatedly criticised US sanctions, describing them as illegal economic pressure measures designed to weaken its economy and international trade.

The latest sanctions are expected to further strain relations between Washington and Tehran amid broader instability in the Middle East and concerns over global energy supply routes.
