Nigerian afro-house singer Niniola Apata has announced the death of her husband, Michael Ndika, in a series of emotional social media posts shared early Wednesday morning.
The Grammy-nominated artiste revealed the heartbreaking news through her Instagram story, writing, “God took him” and “My husband died.” In another emotional post, she added, “God took him. 13 years. 13 f***ing years.”
Michael Ndika, popularly known as Big Mike, was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on afro-house and contemporary African music. Reports also indicated that he played a major role in managing and supporting Niniola’s music career over the years.
The announcement came as a surprise to many fans, as Niniola had largely kept her private life and marriage away from the public eye throughout her career. Her statement also confirmed for the first time that the couple had reportedly been together for 13 years.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause and circumstances surrounding Ndika’s death had not been publicly disclosed.
Following the announcement, condolence messages poured in across social media from fans, colleagues, and members of the entertainment industry who expressed shock and sympathy over the loss.
Niniola, known for hit songs such as Maradona and Boda Sodiq, rose to fame after participating in Project Fame West Africa and later became one of Nigeria’s leading afro-house performers.
