Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has come under heavy criticism on social media following reports surrounding her ₦25,000 menstrual hygiene kit, “Girls Tag,” which is designed as an all-in-one puberty and period care package for young girls.

The controversy erupted after Nigerians online reacted to the price of the kit, which includes sanitary pads, period pants, wipes, a carrying pouch, and an educational guidebook aimed at helping girls understand menstruation and puberty.

Critics argue that the ₦25,000 price tag is unrealistic in a country where many families struggle with rising living costs and where menstrual products are already considered expensive for low-income households. Some social media users described the pricing as “elitist” and insensitive to economic realities.

Supporters of the initiative, however, say the product goes beyond sanitary pads, describing it as a comprehensive menstrual health kit that also provides education, comfort items, and long-term guidance for young girls entering puberty.

The backlash has reignited broader conversations about menstrual health in Nigeria, particularly the issue of period poverty, which affects millions of girls who often struggle to afford basic hygiene products.

As of the time of filing this report, Mercy Johnson has not issued an official response to the criticism, while discussions continue across social media platforms.
