The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized Governor Seyi Makinde over his recent comments on insecurity in the state, describing his remarks as “a height of cluelessness, insincerity and criminal ineptitude.”

The opposition party was reacting to Makinde’s statement that state governors have limited control over security agencies because they are under the authority of the Federal Government. According to the APC, the governor was attempting to shift responsibility for the worsening security situation in Oyo State.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the APC argued that Makinde, as the state’s chief executive, cannot absolve himself of responsibility for protecting lives and property within Oyo State.

The party further called on the governor to resign from office and allow his deputy to complete the remainder of the administration’s tenure, claiming that his comments demonstrated an inability to effectively address the state’s security challenges.

APC also pointed to recent cases of kidnappings, attacks on communities, and the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in parts of the state as evidence that Oyo’s security situation has deteriorated.

The party maintained that previous governors operated under the same constitutional framework without making similar complaints and cited initiatives such as the Oyo State Security Trust Fund as examples of measures used to strengthen security in the past.

The criticism follows a series of exchanges between the APC and the governor over rising insecurity, state policing, and the role of state governments in tackling crime and kidnapping.

As of the latest reports, Governor Makinde has not publicly responded to the APC’s call for his resignation.
