The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has criticised the Federal Government over worsening economic hardship, insecurity, and rising poverty in the country ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

In a statement issued to mark the Muslim festival, the labour union said millions of Nigerians are facing severe hardship due to inflation, unemployment, insecurity, and the high cost of living.

The NLC noted that many families are unable to afford basic necessities or celebrate the festive period properly because of worsening economic conditions across the country.

According to the union, the current realities facing ordinary Nigerians contradict promises of economic recovery and improved welfare.

“Nigerians are hungry, insecure and weighed down by poverty,” the union reportedly stated while urging government authorities to urgently address citizens’ welfare concerns.

The labour body also called on leaders to demonstrate compassion and commitment to policies capable of improving living standards and reducing suffering among workers and vulnerable citizens.

The statement further urged Nigerians to remain united and continue supporting one another despite the country’s social and economic difficulties.
