Fresh confusion has erupted within the Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after rival factions of the party produced separate governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

Reports indicate that businessman Kefiano Kefas Ropshik emerged as candidate from a primary election organised by the faction allegedly loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.

Meanwhile, another faction linked to former Minister of Special Duties Taminu Turaki reportedly backed former permanent secretary Sunday Garba Biggs as its preferred governorship candidate.

The parallel processes have deepened the leadership crisis already affecting the PDP at both state and national levels.

According to reports, delegates from the 17 local government areas reportedly participated in the Wike-backed primary where Ropshik secured victory against other aspirants.

In his acceptance speech, Ropshik promised to focus on security, youth empowerment, economic growth, and inclusive governance if elected governor.

On the other hand, Biggs reportedly invited party stakeholders and supporters to his formal affirmation ceremony, insisting that his faction remains the authentic structure of the PDP in Plateau State.

Political observers say the development could weaken the opposition party’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election if the internal crisis is not resolved quickly.

The crisis also reflects broader divisions within the PDP nationally, where multiple factions and leadership disputes have continued to trigger parallel congresses, primaries, and legal battles across several states.
