Tragedy struck in Lagos after gunmen attacked a wedding after-party in the Ikotun area, killing the bride’s father and a hypeman.

The incident occurred on Oviawe Street, Governor’s Road, Ikotun, shortly after the main wedding ceremony, when guests had gathered for the celebration. Eyewitnesses said the party was ongoing when armed men stormed the venue and began shooting, sending guests into panic.

The hypeman, identified simply as Victor, was reportedly the initial target, as the attackers singled him out while he was entertaining guests. He was dragged outside and attacked before being shot.

In the chaos, the bride’s father allegedly tried to intervene and calm the situation but was also shot by the assailants, with both victims confirmed dead at the scene.

Residents said the attack may be linked to cult-related clashes in the area, rather than the wedding itself, noting that similar incidents have occurred in Ikotun in recent times.

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the incident and launched an investigation, with the case expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti for further action.
