Two bank workers abducted in Benue State have regained their freedom after troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) carried out a successful rescue operation.

The victims, identified as Marwan Abubakar (40) and Leng’en Cakop (37), are staff members of Unity Bank who were kidnapped in Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to the military, the abductors moved the victims to Gborgbor Village in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, where they were being held captive.

Acting on credible intelligence, OPWS troops launched a search-and-rescue operation, combing suspected hideouts and surrounding settlements in the area.

Military authorities said sustained pressure from the troops forced the kidnappers to abandon the captives and flee, leading to the safe recovery of the two bank workers. A motorcycle believed to belong to the criminals was also recovered during the operation.

The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Maj. Gen. Moses Gara, commended the troops for their swift response and reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other security threats in Benue and neighbouring states.
