Nigerian Army troops have confirmed that they **neutralised suspected terrorists during a clearance operation in a forested area of Sokoto State, security sources say.
According to the Army’s 8 Division, soldiers of Operation Hadarin Daji conducted the operation in the Tampol Forest along the Sokoto–Binji Road after receiving actionable intelligence about the presence of bandits/terrorists in the area.
During the encounter, troops engaged the criminals, killing some suspects and forcing others to flee deeper into the forest. Security officials stated that they recovered firearms, ammunition and other equipment from the scene following the clash.
The troops also evacuated the remains of the neutralised suspects to a military facility for further identification and investigation, while continuing mop‑up operations in adjacent bush paths to prevent regrouping.
Officials reaffirmed the commitment of the military and allied security agencies to ensure the safety of communities in Sokoto and neighbouring states, urging locals to support troops with information that could help flush out criminal elements from hideouts.
