President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance, forwarding his name to the Senate for confirmation in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Oyedele, a 50-year-old economist, accountant and public policy expert, previously served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms the team credited with overhauling Nigeria’s tax system.
He will replace Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who is being redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third ministerial portfolio since joining the current administration.
Until his nomination, Oyedele chaired the fiscal policy committee and helped shape major tax reforms aimed at simplifying multiple levies and improving revenue generation. His move to the Finance Ministry is seen as part of President Tinubu’s broader strategy to deepen economic reforms and strengthen fiscal policy implementation.
The Senate will now undertake screening and confirmation hearings before Oyedele can assume his ministerial duties.
