The police have confirmed that one person was killed while seven others were abducted in separate bandit attacks in Sokoto and Kwara states.
According to the Sokoto State Police Command, armed men attacked Mallamawar Yari village in Gawakuke ward of Rabah Local Government Area on Saturday night, killing one resident and abducting five others.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said the abducted victims included three women and two men, dismissing earlier claims that the attackers disguised themselves in women’s hijabs during the assault.
In a separate incident in Ndeji village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, suspected bandits abducted a housewife and her son while they were returning to the main village from a hut on the outskirts where they had gone to cook.
Police said security operatives have intensified patrols and launched operations to track down the perpetrators and rescue the victims, adding that investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
The attacks are the latest in a series of banditry and kidnapping incidents affecting communities in parts of northern Nigeria, where residents continue to face security threats from armed groups.
