Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised Nigeria’s political leaders for allegedly focusing on election politics while insecurity continues to escalate across the country.

In a statement posted on his social media page, Obi said Nigeria is “clearly under siege,” warning that the scale of violence and insecurity has become unbearable for many communities.

He referenced a recent attack in Ngoshe community in Borno State, where terrorists reportedly overpowered soldiers, killed several people and abducted more than 100 women and children.

The former Anambra governor also cited insecurity in Nasarawa, Kogi and Benue states, where residents have reportedly been forced to abandon farms and homes due to terrorist activities and bandit attacks.

Obi further expressed concern that insecurity has spread to the Federal Capital Territory, pointing to a recent kidnapping incident in Kubwa, Abuja, where about 19 residents were abducted from their homes.

According to him, the situation is worsened by the political class being more concerned about the next election cycle than addressing the security crisis affecting Nigerians.

He called for leadership that prioritises citizens’ safety, dignity and welfare, urging authorities to take urgent action to restore security and stability across the country.
