A mother of three, Mrs. Chioma Ogu, has tragically died after a truck lost control and crashed into her home in the Iho community of Ikeduru Local Government Area, Imo State, while her husband was seriously injured in the incident, residents and local sources report.
The crash occurred late Monday night, when a truck laden with chippings allegedly veered off the road and ploughed into the couple’s bungalow, catching many in the area off guard. Neighbours said the driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel, causing the vehicle to swerve into the residential building where the family was resting for the night.
Mrs. Ogu was killed instantly as the truck struck the structure, plunging the Iho community into shock and mourning. Her husband was wounded in the impact and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, with sources saying his condition remains critical.
Residents described the scene as heartbreaking, especially as Mrs. Ogu had been making preparations for her own mother’s burial scheduled for this weekend before her untimely death. Neighbours and sympathisers have since gathered at the family’s home to offer condolences and support to the bereaved relatives.
The crash also caused significant structural damage to the building, compounding the tragedy for the household and the wider community. As of the latest reports, police officials from the Imo State Police Command had not yet issued an official statement about the accident, but an investigation is expected to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the crash.
